Are You Ready To Renovate?
The renovation process can be one of the most exciting and stressful experiences a family can go through. Luckily, we know exactly what it takes to make a renovation go as smoothly and efficiently as possible. We like to limit the stress while ensuring that our clients know exactly what to expect every step of the way. It’s part of what makes Master Edge Homes unique!
How do you know whether or not you’re ready to take the plunge and start building the foundation of your dream home? Depending on the scale of your renovation, there are several things that you will need to do in order to be ready for one of the biggest (and most exciting) processes of your life.
Move it on out!
Are you planning on a large-scale renovation or one that will just focus on a particular room? When you have plotted out the scale of your renovation, you’ll need to pack up anything that’s in the space that’s going to be renovated. This can either be an easy job, or a challenging one, depending on how much of your home is going to be renovated. Consider putting your belongings into a storage room or facility for safe keeping until the process is complete.
What about your light fixtures and other appliances?
Make sure that you do a walk-through with your contractor to determine what essential items (e.g. light fixtures, refrigerator, stove, etc.) are going to be left as they are during the renovation process. Can the light fixtures be saved and reused, or is it better to discard them and purchase new ones? These details must be documented on a Deconstruction and Salvage List by the end of the renovation, allowing renovators to have clear direction on what needs to be discarded, and what can be reinstalled.
Plan out your living arrangements
If you’re going through a full kitchen renovation, you may find it particularly challenging to go about your day-to-day life with so much construction around you. What will you do in terms of meal preparation? Is there room in another part of your home (e.g. the basement) for a contractor to set up a temporary kitchen for you and your family?
Finding another space in the home for a temporary kitchen is an ideal situation, but if you’re going through a larger scale renovation that will have a direct and unavoidable impact on your daily life, you may need to consider relocating for the duration of the renovation.
Relocation will not only ensure that you will be able to operate with optimal comfort as you go about your daily life – it will also ensure your safety. The renovation process is not without its hazards, which is why we like to make sure that all of our renovation crew observes the proper safety precautions at all times.
If you are going into the space during the renovation, let the crew know of your intentions so that they can advise you of any safety precautions that you’ll need to take (e.g. goggles, work boots, etc.)
At Master Edge Homes, we work to deliver a renovation process that puts you on the path to your ultimate dream home. To find out more about our Master Edge Homes advantage, contact us today! 905-201-1054
